I was born in
London and studied painting and printmaking at Ealing and
the Central School of Art and Design, before moving to
Wiltshire in 1973.
I have exhibited regularly across the West Country including
taking part in the Wylye Valley Art Trail and have won
awards for my prints at The Pound Arts Centre and the
Society of Graphic Fine Art.
My paintings and prints take their inspiration from the
landscape of the West Country and I have a special interest
in the ancient pre-historic sites that abound in this area.
I spend many hours (and much shoe leather!) out walking and
drawing in preparation of ideas.
The enigmatic and mysterious marks left on the land of
ancient terraces and field patterns, barrows, stone circles
and henges, feature in much of my work. Added to this, the
changing colours and light throughout the seasons.
The images on Google Earth, coupled with aerial plans and
maps, have been a recent area of study.
The colour prints are produced using the reduction method,
where the block is cut and printed using the lightest colour
first, then cut and printed again over the first colour,
this being repeated several times, until most of the block
is cut away. To increase the colour range within one block,
I often cut it into pieces and reassemble like a jigsaw,
each piece being rolled up in a different colour. Then each
piece is re-cut and reprinted using the reduction method.
